Serving Members, Friends & Companies Involved in Plastics and Polymer Processing in Northeastern Ohio

The Akron SPE section has a great history of being one of the premier sections for SPE International.  For the future, our section aims to continue on the path of spreading knowledge, strengthening skills, promoting education and promoting the industry to technicians, scientists, marketers, retailers and other plastics professionals.  The Akron section will continue to bring innovation to our members by having creative and educational monthly programs.  In addition, partner with other local professional trade groups to share the knowledge and learn from best practices.  The section will continue to support education with our Education Foundation and partnering with  University  of Akron Polymer Program while continuing to align with ACESS local engineering society and Akron Global Polymer Academy. A message from the 2012-2013 President:

Greetings:

I am once again honored to serve as the Akron Section SPE President for the 2012-2013 year. My last term was back in 2000-2001. I am very excited to lead a very dedicated Board of Directors and Committee this upcoming season. The Akron Section has been one of the premier sections dating back to January of 1959.  Our mission is to help serve the plastics industry by continuing to offer valuable technical meetings, networking opportunities, education scholarships and career development to a variety of professionals and students. Our members are fortunate to be part of a professional society that has been granted multiple awards, including the prestigious SPE Pinnacle Gold Award from our National office for several consecutive years. In addition, our geographical location is ideal for learning about new and innovative technologies. Our program this year will consist of several tours of leading technology companies in the area. I would also like to invite you to our upcoming Thermoplastic Elastomers Topical Conference held this September 10-12 at the Akron Hilton (announcements for registration have been sent, if interested please feel free to contact me at 330-490-4743).

Supporting our younger student members is also a major focus of our section. We currently offer educational scholarships to roughly 10-12 students on a yearly basis. Many of these students have gone on to prosper in the plastics industry. Collaborating with other local societies is an ongoing initiative. We have held a variety of joint meetings with ACESS (Akron Council Engineering and Scientific Societies) and continue to work closely with the University of Akron’s Polymer Engineering Student Organization (PESO). These joint activities foster a very collaborative environment which is very exciting for our section members. Again, I am very excited for the upcoming season and hope to see many new faces at our monthly meetings.

Thanks for your ongoing support of our section and I do look forward to meeting you at our upcoming meetings this season.

Sincerely,

Kevin Malpass, President
Akron Section SPE
